Manuscript, in a single secretary hand, of a chronological journal of proceedings in the House of Lords, including bills, resolutions, committee appointments, and orders of the house. The volume includes petitions by lords' servants who claim they were unlawfully arrested and by inhabitants of Farnsfield asking for money to rebuild a church destroyed by fire. Other entries record committees assembled to consider whether a sergeant-at-arms may arrest a peer upon contempt of a decree in Chancery, and whether an academy should be built to educate children of the nobility; and acts for better maintenance of hospitals and almshouses and for establishing a free grammar school. The manuscript also contains a speech by King Charles I defending his right to collect tonnage and poundage duties; and a list of lords absent from the house with reasons for their absences.
